Default What will this do ?

As some of you may be aware, the government has recently changed the laws regarding our personal information and in particular cross public sector access to that info. From now on, your medical records for example, can be accessed by the police, or even HM customs and excise and scrutinised by that organisation to further their own ends. what does this mean ?

in theory, if your medical records state that you use steroids or other illegal substances, plod can be made aware of your behavior.

this in itself may not be anything to alarm anyone, yet, but expect more and more cross agency info sharing in future if the authorites feel it will benefit them.

read a summary of the law here;

havent read the info there... but in my job we have alot of dealings with Data protection issues.

we have to be very careful what data we access about our students...

am guessing this new law could cause alot of problems... as yes it is ok for different departments to share data... however monitoring it is another thing! and there are european laws protecting against this. also transferring data between the european union and the US is another no-no too.
