Anyway, I started into my old ways and hit the gym doing two hour workouts in the old military mentality, no pain no gain and all of that good stuff, my workouts were considered complete when I was close to blowing chunks and crawling out on my hands and knees 4-5 times a week. Great stuff! Then I decided to surf the web for some training related advice and came across (not literaly ) crazy Cal who gave me a copy of Beyond Brawn.Bloody hell, it was like going back in time to my first hardcore gym in the mid 80's, I suddenly realised how my form had turned to crap and I was using every peice of kit in the gym, doing everything to failure and basicaly overtraining big time. Yeah I was getting fitter from the ball breaking workouts but not what I wanted, I wanna be BIG So, I started dropping weight to a good level, using compund exercises and using strict, strict form, I am gradualy building up my strength and it feels really good. I get the soreness in all the right places at the right time and of course the hardest thing is taking the days off and getting the rest in, that is bloody torture, but I'm going to stick to it. Unfortunately I don't have access to a hardcore gym and have to use the fitness centre but I am the only real weight trainer in there, the rest are just loafing Thai people reading cosmo on the exercise bikes until something grabs there attention like a big bald tattoos white man who ripped the arse out of his trousers whilst doing squats yesterday and carried on with the rest of his workout (much to the disgust of my missus who thinks I'm a freak), no argument there. I'll let you know how it goes and if I am going to make it to the next Olympia to put Cutler in his place Happy training people. Jack |
