Posts: 2,445 Rep Power: ![]() | Hey Chris, I used the form you use on your deadlift video (more back, less leg compresion) and was able to move my deadlift from 100kg to 130kg Previously I've found it difficult being tall (6ft 6") to crouch really low at the start of the deadlift and get the bar over my knees, and so I'd resorted to doing Suitcase Dumbell Deadlifts. By bending my knees less and 'putting my back into it' I found it far more comfortable. Keep up the good work mate. |

My training partner Elliot is 6ft 6 and has a hard time deadlifting conventional. We've got him lifting sumo now and his lifts are going up every week. ______________________ 900kgs and rising. As a bodybuilder I don't use the suits and knee wrap etc, but from you expertese how much would you guess that that adds to the lift?? I know theirs a phenomenal ammount of technique required to be able to use them properly, but just wondered from a BBing point of view. (Not that i'm likely to take up powerlifting!) My mate Tom does all that and I think he's trying to get a 300k squat. He's training with Bulldog currently so I've no doubt he will sooner or later!! ______________________ APPLIED KNOWLEDGE, IS POWER!!! I've asked Elliot a friend of mine to drop you a pm as he likes the sumo stance and is tall like yourself. The suits can help a lot on the squat and bench, not so much on the deadlift. There are a lot of suits on the market and they take a lot of time to get used to. You have single ply gear then you have multi ply layered equipment. The thicker the suit for the squat the harder it is to make depth, same with bench shirts. The bench shirt will help you from the bottom of the lift if fitted correctly but you have to lock the weight out from mid way to full lockout. Thats why you see a lot of powerlifters pressing off blocks/boards to strengthen that part of the lift. For example It would be pointless wearing a double ply denim shirt if you would need 200kg to touch at the bottom and didnt have enough tricep strength to lockout.... I will say since using shirts my raw bench has improved. To answer your question, it is difficult to say how much the equipment does add. For the deadlift I would say I can pull around the same. Training with the suit stops me from getting injured lifting week in week out. I have squated 300kg without a suit just wraps and a belt, that was sometime ago. I go up to 265kg then put my suit on. On the bench, I hit 210kg two weeks ago in a single ply F6 shirt and worked up to 165kg raw before that. Yes, I know Tom nice guy. He has hit 300kg now mate Im sure he has squated 320kg.
