ive seen the last 2 heats they have shown (well missed the last 5 mins of last nights)

im a bit bewildered about the carrying barrells through water task... i think its getting too far away from what strongman should be... too much technique/endurance rather than a feat of strength... and to have it as the last event (the one where marunde - sp? - went out) i think was a bit unfair, with it being a new event to my knowledge its down to the guy who "stumbles" upon the best technique that wins... rather than giving the competitors an opportunity to really push themselves and do soemthimng special to qualify... the atlas stones or farmers walk/stone carry is a much better event as the last event as they know that if they need to beat someone to qualify then all they need to do is dig deep and push as hard as they can! - much more exciting too!

I agree bro, I much prefer the static events... I would much rather see the events go back to the day's of Kaz. Strongman has moved away a little from the raw strength aspect. I was gutted for Jesse, he is a nice guy. Im sure he will be back next year, he really wants the title bad.... Cant keep a good man down for long.......

it really gets me how strongman, powerlifting, bodybuilding gets so little TV coverage in this country... the reality of it is that once its on TV people are interested in it... my wife was saying last night how worlds strongest man used to be really popular 10-20 years ago in this country....

yet at any time of the year you can tune in to darts or snooker..... i mean for f*cks sake!!!!

people want to see big men pull big trucks and lift big anchors... flip tyres etc.... but creating medleys and adding in water really takes away from all that!

i used to love that event where they used to have to hold a bar and walk round in a circle as far as they could.... you could see the pain in their faces as they tried to hang on for as long as possible... and then some..... suspense!!!

in both your posts you bring up two great points leeB.

We do need more coverage of strongman, bodybuilding & Powerlifting. But i guess the broadcasters or who ever is in charge of our TV see these sports as "Drug Run" i dunno, only reasoning i can see as to why we get little coverage of them all.

However we all know drugs take place in all sports, even in darts they take drugs to steady their nerves lol!

But with the lack of coverage talking of strongman, i dont think the UK will produce a World Strongest Man anytime soon.

When it comes to sports coverage and funding our Government suck pretty badly.
Hence why we never win anything, at least the USA are doing something right in that department. If you want to be a sports person its good to be American.

Someone mentioned once you dont change the sport because of the Title "StrongMan" as strongman is more "Strength Endurance" unlike the Arnold Classic which is all about static strength.
I agree the last event is rubbish and as you mentioned there is to much technique and luck involved rather than pure strength.

It may be that they're trying to introduce some kind of athleticism to the events to get away from the 30st monsters who can't walk the length of themselves. This would allow more publicity therefore more mass appeal.Look at Marius at least he looks fit (?) and has bags of character to further the sports appeal.
