im struggling getting the weight up to the upper chest(i think they call this the snatch bit) and its holding me back.i no i can press more than i can snatch easy

does anyone out there have any ideas on getting better at the snatch part.

Hiya mate

The snatch is basically a lift from the floor to above your head in one move.

The clean is a bit more technical, try rolling it from your legs to your upper chest. You should be using middle chest, arms and fore arms for this. Rolling to the top of your chest and then press it cleanly above your head.

I used to do the clean and jerk when I was younger and there are some techniques you can pick up!!

Let us know how you get on matey!!

Default log lifts

hi steve
try with the log using your legs grab the log bend your legs like squating
bring the log just above the knee onto the thigh. from there it's an explosive movment upto the chest. as you are mid way about stomach height try flicking your wrists back the momentium helps it back onto your chest. from there take a breather before the next part of the lift. bend legs as you push the weight upwards over head throgh head foward so log is directlly above head for lock out.
from floor you want to use as little strengh as possible so you have more for the main lift and more reps.

hope this has been some help.

yeah the guy i was doing it with dont train at the same gym now, so he took his gear with him,

i actually got up to doing about 90kg, but i couldnt never get the explosive bit right, i ended up just rolling it up my body somehow,

i think the log wernt made right, the handles sort of stood out of the log, a little, are they ment to be like this, cos i would have thought it would be easier if they were in the log itself.

that definatelt helps by bending the legs just before the press,

at the moment i am cutting, but strongman is something i would like to do,

farmers walk i managed to lift 140kg in each hand,( i did not move any where with this just picked it up off the ground)

but with a 100kg in each hand i got up to about 55 metres beforte my grip went.

i found the hardest part was the turn at the end,

speak soon mate

You lucky barstard steve. I would love to try log lift, farmers walk etc. To me I would love to try the africa stone or the atlas stones.
Used to pick up the anvil at work and walk round with that, that was pretty heavy.
I've always wanted to try strongman events since I started BB. Being a Strongman competitor far more interested me than competing in BB.

hi steve the best way to make the turn on the falmers walk easyer is to turn them into each other as you come upto the turn that way they don't swing outwards. by turning them in as the turn is done the farmers level out and end up pointing foward again. hope this helps mate

ive found that this is a very good way of log lifting as is saves energy and is even better if you have a slight belly as it aids the roll movement. I was having the same problem but im now lifting 100kg logs for 5 reps and im only 17.
