I guess I should have not used a camera with a flash directed at a mirror...d'oh!!! ______________________ You don't win friends with salad |

It is not a very large gym (3500 square feet) but it is only for personal trainers and their clients. I pay the gym a fee every month based on how many sessions I conduct at the gym, and my clients pay me directly. There is a standard dumbell rack on the opposite side of the gym that goes up tp 120lbs. I rarely use those powerblocks but I would absolutely get them if I had a home gym. That particular pair of powerblocks can be adjusted from 10 to 80 pounds per dumbell. Think of how much more space actual dumbells would take up. As I said though...save them for a small home gym only. I charge my clients per "package" of sessions. One session = $49.00/hr. Six sessions = $47.00/hr ($282.00 for 6) Twelve sessions = $43.00/hr ($516.00 for 12) Clients generally choose the six session package the first time out then purchase packages of 12 if they continue on with me. On ocassion, some decide to just buy one session in order to try me out so to speak, but, as you know one hour will really not be a fair barometer of the services. I am thinking of raising the single session price to $55.00 for that reason. Some people, however, like to "pay as they go" and always purchase individual sessions based on their time and finances. I try to tell them to just get six or twelve because it is not like the sessions are going to expire, they will eventually use them up anyway (and ultimately save a bit). ______________________ You don't win friends with salad |

Some trainers charge from $65.00-85.00 per hour. Of course, you can get a personal trainer from the local gym or recreation centre. Their rates will be more reasonable, probably $20.00-$25.00. However, any trainer that has knowledge, personality, ambition, experience, drive, a good reputation and credibility will not work at a gym, they'll be self-employed. The "trainers" at a commercial gym are usually 19-24 year old pimply faced geeks. I wouldn't exactly be too impressed being taught by a guy who looks like he couldn't do 10 chin-ups!!! There are also a large number of "trainers" at the rec centres who are middle-aged women, and they're generally 10-20 pounds overweight. Yeah. like I'm going to follow your diet advice Being a trainer is just like any other job in this world. If you work or choose a career based on earnings or income potential, you may or may not be a happy man. I know a lot of men and women who make huge amounts of money (many of them clients of mine), but hate their jobs. I believe you should choose a career that you love, regardless of income. If you really do love the work and have an aptitude for it then money will eventually follow. When I started, I was working as a trainer in a gym and my wage was $15.00/hour. After a few months I was given a raise to $18.00/hour. After a year, I was given a raise to $20.00/hour and after 18 months I quit and went out on my own. My rates did not start out as high as they are now. You need to establish yourself first, then you can slowly raise your rates over time. Finally, I would bet that any American or Canadian members would agree that my present rates are not outrageous by any means. ______________________ You don't win friends with salad |
