Default Levothyroxine + ephedrine???

Can anyone tell me if it is safe to take levothyroxine with ephedrine.

I am taking 200 mgs of levothyroxine and approx 4 Eph 25 capsules per day. I do this for 6 weeks then stop the eph 25's for two weeks. I have been taking the eph since about Feb 2006 and the thyroxine since June following the removal of my whole thyroid gland due to thyroid cancer.

I have felt fine and I am continuing with my weight training and maintaining my weight of 10 st (I am 5'8 and female).

Any suggestions? (I have checked with GP/pharmacist and they haven't been very helpful). If this combination is risky, is there anything else I can take to help with my training? (Other than eph, unfortunately the levothyroxine is non negotiable!). :?

bosubelle,
sorry to hear about your past illness. hope it's well and truely behind you now.
as for your question, ephedrine is of course a stimulant, and as such is taxing on the nervous system as well as the heart. prolonged or continued use of stimulants or any drugs is always a risky business. ALL drugs have potential side effects and the longer you expose yourself to those drugs, the greater the risk of experiencing side effects becomes. I'm no doctor, and although i wouldn't recomend your current regimen as a long term endeavour, in real world terms you're not alone in doing this kind of practise. cycling on and off seems a sensible way to go with the eph, however ideally strive for less pharmacological solution to weight control long term.

good luck, and keep training.

Hi there

I too am sorry to hear about ur medical condition, and agree with bodyworksI tend to prefer clen than eph but again it does cause discomfort with the cardiovascular system. I tend to cycle 2 weeks clen followed by 2 weeks eph, all the best for the new year and may ur goals become a reality.

R
