it doesn't actuallt state you can become insulin resistant by using AAS it just points out that you could be by way of poor glucaose tolerance....

to me this doesn't prove anything and i stand by my first statement that diet is the deciding factor to consider with insulin resistance...

Indeed. Most powerlifters eat a very bad diet compared with bodybuilders. Donuts and sugary carbs on the day of meets etc - this would definately have more effect on insulin resistance than AAS.

'Powerlifters who ingested anabolic steroids had diminished glucose tolerance compared to the nonsteroid-using group, despite having substantially higher postglucose serum insulin concentrations.'

I agree its an area for debate as the study states that relatively little research has been done in this area (p160) but it does say to distinguish between effects of replacement doses and pharmacological doses of the sex steroids. Bodybuilding doses should be considered too imo.

Yes it's an area of debate, but one study does not give any kind of definitive answer.

Have you thought about issues like:

a) Amount of food regularly consumed?
b) Type of food regularly consumed?

These are going to vary massively over the test groups here and by themselves should be enough to completely skew the study. What's more, Insulin resistance is something developed over a protracted period of time, all this study is doing is testing it on a given group of people - accurate correlations cannot be made.

I see what you're saying. Do you know why then that insulin dependant diabetics are listed as a group that shouldnt take anabolics? Well, it actually says to treat with caution when administering to them by a Dr. (BNF 2003)
