Default views on steroids for dissertation

Hi, i'm doing a dissertation on bodybuilding. i've come to the point of discussing anabolic steroids and was wondering if you guys could help. On the net you just get bias views, about the gains/side efftecs etc. I don't want to write a load of stuff against steroids and the exaggerated sides on health, cos i know there good if used properly. I handed the following qusetionnaire out in the gym but i didn't get many reponses:

What are your general views on steroids?

How did steroids first come to your attention?

What influenced you to start using them?

Have you had any benefits/negative effects?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Treated with respect and fully researched before trying, perfectly safe and fine.

After I sent an SAE to an advert in Musclemag which said 'Serious bodybuilders boost your potential' I got back a list of products and prices from a guy in Watford. I was 18 years old and didnt order.

I saw it as a natural progression after 5 years of solid training. I could say guys down the gym who after 6 months training were lifting far more than me but as jealous as it may have made me at the time, the decision to start was curiosity. Just wanted a short small blast at them to see what'd happen.

Negatives are headaches, although not had one now for over a year. Aggression can get up a little at times but controllable.
Benefits.........no-one ****s with you.

if you want an awesome physique i think they are the only way to go, unless you are seriously gifted in terms of genetics and have about 20 years to spare, they are extremely effective and safe when used properly

erm i think it was when i was at college and my buddy was telling me how fast you can gain on them, i also read a few articles/posters which highlighted the dangers of steroid use

Arnold, the fact that i had reached a natural plateau for a good year and the realisation that the body i'm after is unattainable without them

as of yet i've only run PH's, not roids, PH gave me mood swings, lethargy and bloat, nothing serious though, benefits were increased size, strength and pumps, can't wait to hit the real stuff!

If approached carefully with plenty of research into the area steroids are a great way to progress - you shouldn't think though that they are a magic bullet; the fundamentals (basic training and a good diet) remain fundamental whether you're on steroids or not.

The Ben Jonson scandal in the 1988 (I think) Olympics. This was way before I took up bodybuilding though. Since then I've read about the subject getting information from books and internet sources and have learned not to believe the hyped-up, and to be frank grossly mis-informed, media driven demonization of steroids.

I had been training natural for about three years and had reached a plateau. I made no progress at all for about a year - that's why I chose to do my first cycle.

Benefits were obvious - increase in muscle mass. However the only adverse side-effects I've experienced were a bit of acne on the back, a bit of bodyhair growth especially on the back and a bit of water retention while on Dbol and sust. As for testicular shrinkage, gyno or hair loss haven't experienced those and had my blood cholesterol level checked just after I did my cycle and that was in the healthy range.

Hope this help
