Default Support of Family and Friends

    Hello all...

Has anyone who has decided to compete found that their circle of friends has diminished somewhat (or at least changed?!) I have excellent support from my mum, and my brother eventually warmed to the idea, but my dad is being quite horrible about the fact I am competing and I find it hard. Easy as it is to say to myself to ignore him, I want him to be proud of me and he isn't, he thinks I am taking it too far...

Does anyone else find it difficult when people don't support them? I am less than 3 weeks to my show- I wish he had saved his little rant for afterwards!!!

Hi, Elle, that is so sweet and yet so sad. The best thing for you is to concentrate on the positives and give it your best. Remember this is for you.
    Sending positive thoughts your way.
    Good luck.

While you're talking behind my back feel free to bend down and kiss my ass.

Thank you... I will continue to persist regardless what anyone else thinks... I'm not hurting anyone, I am in perfect health for the first time in about 6 years... I don't understand why some people oppose it so much, I am competing in toned figure and it's SO feminine, even my nan and grandad are trying to understand and they're 75 and 80!! Oh well... thanks...

He told my mum he was happy to see me confident for the first time in my life, but now he has started being outwardly mean... calling me a "weirdo" and saying that competitive bodybuilding is taking it "way too far" and that I should just be "normal"- he said it is impacting on my life... but what he doesn't appreciate is I moved to England last July after being in Ireland for 8 years, I had to start over, I had no friends moving here, all I was doing was comfort eating and/or drinking, I was overweight, tired and unhealthy, and desperately unhappy... I would NEVER wear tight clothes, I always put on a jolly face but inside I was dying... I have changed so much in terms of my self esteem... wish he would just say one word to me that he is happy for me...

Everyone has had a different life experience and will have different views and opinions based on this. Even though you may not like a response from someone it may not be as personal to you as you believe and more about the life experience of the person your speaking to.

Your only able to decide your own thoughts and take others as they come, and what you make of others views is up to you!

Fleg I think you are wrong bud We are all normal ever one From being gay to being a body builder. Ppl should see you first not that you are a body builder.

People have a misconstrued idea of female bodybuilding, what you are experiencing is ignorance from someone who should be more open minded and supportive.

My dad said he would not support me at all in bodybuilding bcos he doesn't believe in any form of drug taking, come to that he's only ever asked me once in over 12 years how Extreme Nutrition is doing. My sister and I put it down to jealousy, he always wanted to be his own boss but it never worked out for him and I think he finds it hard to see me make things work where he couldn't.

I know some of your dad's shortcomings, perhaps taking a direct standpoint and telling him you have acheived more than he ever could bcos of his small mindedness and that you are disgusted by his lack of support may be the wake up call he needs?
