Default Gym equipment

After much debate myself and a friend have decided to rent out a 4000 square foot industrial unit and turn it into a gym.Where are the best places to look for gym equipment?

Cheers

G

Have you read 9Packs Gym journal on UK-M?

Its not as easy as you think to set one up...

Ebay is always a good start for gym equipment though

ebay is the room of broken hearted gym owners selling off there equipement.. You can pick up some realy decent kit for good prices. That said I know that the equipment in my gym is at least 15 years old and for the most part has been repaired and generaly abused all its life, christ knows what state some of this stuff is in before you get to it.

I think its staffing costs and insurance that realy kill off most of the gyms.

I meen alot of the realy hardcore - spit and sawdust places are selling more than protien shakes to keep the place open......

Have you invistegated the area? is there a demand for the type of gym you want? whats the compition like? what are the council in your area like (your have to get a change of status for a unit i think, your also need 2 toilets ect...)

Gazz ,your a smart fella ...so i'm sure you've all ready thought about alot of the basics...but pple will gladly give suggestions for posts to come that might remind you of some small ( important ) details that you forgot. Here's a link of a gym franchise offer that would be worth looking into...Kinda like a Gold's or Worlds but not nearly the same price tag...I don't think the site mentions anything about franchising but has contact info...Lot's of benefits to franchising...can probably rent equipment and if it dosn't make you money...send it back...if it's popular...bye it...I think their niche is 24 hr access without 24 hr staff, but I haven't looked that fully at it...A friend of mine is currently working with them on his own establishment, so if your interested I can get more info..Not sure what they do internationally..Good luck

Thank you all for your input, advise and opinions.I knew you guys would speak your minds and i respect you all completely for that.Thats why i put it to you.I'm not walking into this with my eyes shut i can usure you.A gym is,after all a business like any other and if it fails to capitalize then it quite simply deflates like a giant cash filled balloon. And the cash being yours obviously. Not good!

I have'nt read 9Packs Gym journal Tall but thanks i will nip over there and give it a scan.I take it he's just set up as he?

The person im going into this with already own's a very well known gym in Kent and has set me the task of finding something suitable here in the west country. This little town in particular where all the 12,000+ residents have is the most apalling leisure centre ive ever seen. Its basically a mish mash of surplus equipment from the companies main establishment in the next town and its quite literally a box room, with cr*p weights. The monthly membership fee is disgusting for whats on offer. The place is filthy aswell. Its also run by suits who have never trained a thing in their lives other than an eye for your money so any hope of having the 'users' needs catered for will be a lost hope.Thats where i hope my niche is!

I'll be getting my Mum,woman and sister to help with the running.Ive got a small distribution warehouse to look at tomorrow that from a quick peek through the front window could be perfect and it has Mens and Womens toilets, lol.

Right im off to look on E-bay.Oh and thanks for the link Cella

No Snoop Dogg its not!

I can't reveal that sort of info just yet.Don't wanna count my chickens.I noticed 9 Packs kitting his place out with Gym80 stuff.I put this to my partner and although the quality of there equipment is first class their after care has been found to be far from it.But i suppose the bright side to that is because its such finely engineered stuff you won't need a maintainance job for many years, touch wood!

Ive got every letting agency in Wilts on the case now my phones smoking!
