Default avatar help plz!

okay dokey so am not exactly computer literate, needin a wee hand with an avatar, ive picked one from the gallery but would prefer to use one of my pics i hav on my machine, thing is my photos r all too large. how would i go about shrinkin them to fit for my avatar?
ps could u reply in simple laymans terms so i can understand.

yes, just make sure the pic you want to use is saved as a jpg file, it should say .jpg after the file name. that will bring the file size down, then use something like paint or photo editor to change the size of the pic to 80 pixels wide. the program should keep the height proportionate for you. thats about as simple as i can get it.

ok ill try lol, get the photo or pic u want up, go to edit, then once ur in edit go to 'stretch and skew' keep reducing the pic till its about the same size as ur thumb or a bit bigga, then 'save as'. the pic u just saved should now fit, i have windows xp so yours might be different to mine if its windows 98 or watever. this is how i do it anyway, good luck kev

right had a look at my pic, its a "bitmap image" or sumfing, so how do i change that into a jpeg so that i can resize on the ironmagazine link, plz mind n tell me in simple language, fankoo. xx

when you open it you hit save as and then when it gives you options for file type just chose .jpg that should shrink it substantially, bmp's are huge!

ok, so my avatar has gotta be less than 6kb, now wat sizes should that be when im resizing? on the resizer its got a height and a width size?
