| Making Progress | Hi Sam, yes i agree its a cutthroat business, but if you look at it from another angle, it's all commercialised, glamour and glitz, personally speaking an old school gym when you walk in and you smell the sweat and cold iron and steel of equipment, in all honesty a no frills get down to hard work without fancy uniforms and posers, the good old days. But then thats just my opinion any thoughts anyone else. Dave. |

No one chatted you went in and you lifted and you screamed and you grunted and no one looked they were all focused on there training not how they looked to other people. In winter I used to go in and train with 3 jumpers on cause It was so cold the mirrors had frost on them! when it rained the roof leaked but no one gave a shit. Good times indeed, then it was forced to close and I had to go to one of the bigger gyms and it still pisses me off if I train there at peak times, people will sit on a machine and chat you ask them if they've finished and they say "no mate got three more sets" then carry on ****ing talking! In the free weights area your so cluttered its hard to move without knocking into someone wouldn't mind if there all training but a lot of the blokes are checking themselves out or using the mirrors to see if any women are checking them out! Theres a few of us from my old gym who are members there and we usually train together one of my mates threatened to throw a 50lb dumbell through the speakers unless they and I quote "turned that ****ing dance shit off and played some decent music" The women are a bonus though, but the looks you get when you scream or shout on a rep! people act like your from another planet. Mate of mine was squatting 280kg and me and another guy were spotting for him when he finished and turned round we realised the whole gym had stopped and was watching him. People in those places are more concerned about how they look and who they can pick up than how hard they train. I much prefer the old style gyms but there on the brink of extinction theres none left round my area now. Friend of mine asked if I wanted to come workout at his gym I said "How bigs the weight room?" he replied "Weight Room?" That said it all.... |

They have nothing better to do with there time than watch me train its there business especially as the gym charges them 54 a month to stand there and do nothing! |
