Can anyone remember how to do long multiplication and long division calculations? I haven't done those kind of maths questions since I was at school, and I'm sitting a test in a few weeks thats full of them! Any memory refreshers would be great thanx!!!

Sorry Mate - I used the Texas Instruments method of learning long division/multiplication, and like you have never had to use it since!
(why didn't they teach us budgets, forecasting, headcount/revenue etc!?)

Hi Dave, that would be great thanks! The long division is killing me totally. Not done those since school and I use a calc to do any sums at work. Just way out of practice.....bad I know. I am doing the entrance exam for stathclyde police in the next few weeks and need to brush up on my mental agility! :?
Thanx again man. Hope your training is going well!

I am sh*te at maths, but I am a Chartered Accountant, so if I can manage that anyone can bluff it! I remember sitting my final exams for accoutancy, and having to have extra lesson for simultaneous equations and statistical crap. the lecturer was pulling his hair out and I remember him saying 'how the hell have you got to final level of an accountancy degree without having the faintest idea about maths'

Think i just saw it as a challenge, and I did it, so there you go!

Good luck with the test si, sure you'll be fine.

Dave, yeah, I'm trying to get into the police, but the entrance test isn't for another few weeks yet, so don't rush yourself mate. I have been looking thru the net for info on it, but jings man, long division?? - it's about as clear as mud! Thanks again Dave. I had about 2 dozen things on the go the other night at home, and I managed to forget that I had 4 chicken breasts cooking away in the oven!! The things were ruined and had to bin them! Raging so I was.
Take it easy and if you can help out, just when you are free

Some of the problems are like 3476/47... I forgot the method that is used to get the answer and the remainder.......feel a bit of a dumbass, but if you don't use it, you lose it. I lost my ability to do that years ago I think. I'm sure once I see the method, it will all come back to me. I hope.

No probs Simon, do you need workings of any other sums or is it just the division that stumps you.
