Default Low carbs and sleep

Does any one else suffer from sleeplessness when they go on a low carb diet? The first two or three days I cut out carbs I'm up all night. I it increased metabolism or something greatly scientific? Or just to much ephedra from time to time?

Yes, I think just about everyone gets the ol' insomnia on low carb diets.

A touch of GABA is helping me at the moment

stimulants ruin your sleep my friend. eating less, slows the metabolism. i notice my sleep suffer during a diet, but i know why. try taking any stimulants earlier in the day. you'll still wake up a for p*ss 5 times a night, but you should drop off back to sleep easier.

To be honest I had the best sleep ever when I did two weeks of zero carbs.

In bed by 10 awake at 6.

The only ephedra I take is in the early AM so it shouldn't affect the sleep. I just wondered if there was some science behind it. I eat the same number of times each day just without the carbs

Why not keep your carbs lower during the day and have a carb meal before bed? I had to do this when I was competing or my sleep was crap. Its the carbs that cause a release of seratonin which is a feel good hormone important in our sleeping patterns.

Ecstasy also causes a massive release of seratonin, hence the lovey dovey happy feeling given by real E's.

A reduction in carbs tends to increase serum catecholamines - norepinephrine, dopamine, etc - these will keep you wired. Although personally, i've had no problems sleeping on carb restriction, maybe you need to tire yourself out more.

Hi Lads

I tend to agree with Extreme a wee carb boost before bed works wonders, espcially after a spliff lol (thats my secret out lol).

All the best

I should add, the science does support carbs making you dozy.
