Default Carb free?

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out a diet for myself. I've had lots of sucess on Atkins but it's quite tedious and expensive!

I need to loose maybe 1.5 stones of flab from my middle, to be skinny. I'm doing cardio 3 times and week and weight training 3 times a week, I don't want to loose endurance and want to keep piling on the muscle.

I've read things like: no carbs for 5 days, then eat them for two, or only eat carbs for breakfast and alike. Whats the sensible way to do it?
I like a deacent breakfast, hot lunch and big dinner and tend to have sausages inbetween to keep the protein and metabolism doing it's thing. But I do have a slow metabolism so it's easy to overeat and the atkins deals with that nicely.

My wife and I both lost two stones on the Atkins but you have to be very strict. If you haven't tried it don't knock it. It does get very boring though that's why people lose the plot.

Personnally, i'd go with Zara's advice.
You don't need to try something to know it no good, thats what intelligent thought and knowledge are for. To avoid making mistakes.

Many peolp lose a vaste ammount of weight on the Atkins diet, predominantly due to the loss of fluids that are expelled along with the carbs (3-4g water with every gram of carbs) So if you lose 500g carbs a day from your diet, you lose another 1500-2000g of water as well. Thats about half a stone straight away. But as soon as you eat normally again, that weight goes back on. Simple maths.
far better off making smaller, but permanent changes to the diet if you intend on keeping th weight off!

the Atkins diet sucks in the long run as yes you will lose the weight but over the long term it will bounce back when you eat any carbs plus it was admitted by atkins that eating any fats as they first advised is the wrong thing to do...

without dought the best way to lose weight is carb cycling and this way of eating is maintanable long term..3 yrs ago i put my older sister on a carb cycle diet she was at the time a size 22 one year after she started she had got down to a size 10 now she has settled at a size 12 ....

as pscarb says. atkins does work. its been proved many times. carb restriction is something bodybuilders have used for years and years... atkins is basically an extension of this... why do bodybuilders not use it?? i mean, we need to get as lean as possible in a short a time as possible!!??? we dont use it cos it aint the best. simple as that. its too extreme and most people DO put the weight back on.... if theres one thing GOOD bodybuilders know about, its losing body fat..... so like has been said... have a good read through the diet articles.... what have you got to lose??? well ALOT actually - all fat!!! lol

You aint seen boring til youve dieted for a show mate so thats a bit ov a patronising statement to make on here lol

Also - first - u dnt know if i have tried it or not and second - it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out a diet high in saturated fat is not good for you.

Anyway - I'm a girl what would I know. Listen to LeeB, Paulscarb and Neil instead. Oh yeah thats right - they said the same thing haha

Thanks for the advice.

Yeh the atkins has worked well for me, I'm not fat thanks to it and I can eat shed loads (of meat, hurrah!) it's almost perfect. But it doesn't seem to help knocking of the belly flab I've picked up in the last 6 months. That aside the main issue is just the shear difficulty, especially as I do alot of work in the field, making an atkins packed lunch is expensive and time consuming.

I'll have a read through the diet articles and find something that suits me. Thanks again!

Atkins had its place in the dieting world until people released all the saturated and trans fats where bad for you hence why the company went bust sort of tells you something doesn't....

when anyone goes on Atkins you can pretty much guarantee they will lose near on 10lbs in 2weeks because they have given up carbs this 10lbs would be nearly 100% water loss from both subcutaneous tissue or muscle because for every 1g of carbs you eat then you take in 3g of water if you stop all of your carbs then you will lose a lot of water....

if your looking for a quick fix that will not last the long term then use Atkins but if you are looking for long term fix to being a lard ass then Carb Cycling is the way to go or stop stuffing your face full of cakes...
