Default Egg Whites

When some of you guys talk about putting egg whites into your shakes, are the egg whites raw? If so, how safe is this?

Also, how much protein would your average chicken egg white contain?

Cheers.

Dont quote me but i think the average egg white is 3 grams of protein.

Eating raw egg whites is unsafe because salmonella & listeria could be present.

I use pasteurised egg whites, they have been heat treated so kills off salmonella. However they are quite expensive

Personally i use the pasturised ones too, and , as Bulldozer says they are approx 3 grams protein each (or 1g per 10ml).

ive just looked on the eggnation site and am a little confused...

on the main page ( http://www.eggnation.co.uk/) it says that six 30ml servings contain 18g protein, which would make sense i.e. 6*3g=18g

yet on the nutritional info pdf ( http://www.eggnation.co.uk/egg-white...-Datasheet.pdf) it says that a 30ml serving contains 23g protein??

also on the nutrition pdf above, it also says:

Presentation
Eggnation is available in 1 liter tetra packs with 30ml being equal to one medium egg white so containing just over the equivalent to 33 egg whites.

so which one is correct????

ive mailed them and asked them to clear it up for me!

I get mine from either Eggnation (via AktivBodz in Bradford) or Myprotein.co.uk.

I prefer the myprotein ones though coz they are less 'lumpy', which makes me wretch coz of the way the lumps hit the back of your throat.
But, Eggnation tend to cook a bit better so I use Eggnation for scambled and myprotein for Raw. Not tried the wheyprotein.co.uk ones, might have a look-see!
