Default Protein Sources for Vegetarians

Saw a mate this morning who's been having lots of hospital tests and the upshot is the doctor reckons the problem is happening because of his lack of protein intake. He's been refered to a dietician but wanted my advice as "the man who knows everything about having a balanced diet" (I was eating a kit-kat at the time)

He is a very strict vegetarian. He ran through is normal daily diet and tbh, I couldn't spot any proteing in there at all (not sure about the make up of vegetarian sausages). I suggested including some whey protein shakes but he made some connection between whey and slaughterhouses!!

I ran out of ideas but said I'd ask around. Are there any vegetarians out there and what is your main source of protein. Even if you're not a veggie, does anywhere have an answer to this

Thanks

With him being a veggie he'll struggle to get enough protien inside of him, you can get the soya protien from Holland and Barretts.

You're in luck, your favorite moderator happens to be a veggie.

It's pretty easy to get 200g+ protein into your diet as a veggie eating 2500kcals or so. The following sources are where I get most of mine:

- eggs
- pulses (lentils, beans, chick peas)
- dairy (cottage cheese, fromage frais, quark)
- powders
- soya

Tell him not to be retarded, if anything, whey keeps animals alive as they're giving milk, lol.

Disclaimer: if this thread turns into some ignorant debate about veggies resembling AIDS victims (as it has in the past), i'm out. Feel free to ask any other questions though.

Thanks raz - that's fantastic

Do me a favour mate. Can you break that down into what your typical daily diet would look like? How do you spread that 200g+ out throughout the day

OK, example day.

1) 2 slices soya bread, 250g cottage cheese, flora spread ~40g protein
2) Packet veggie burgers ~40g protein
3) Pancake [150g cottage cheese, 50g oats, 4 egg whites] ~40g protein
4) Tin of beans/lentils/etc + mixed fibrous veg + 250g quark ~40g protein
5) Two scoops protein blend pre-bed ~60g protein

That's around 200g, roughly what I was eating during last cut.
