Default Waking up every night with my stomach growling....

Every single night I will eat until I'm full, and then go to sleep. Half way through the night my stomach wakes me up growling and feeling empty! This is becoming extremely annoying as I can't fall back asleep until I get up and make something to eat...can anybody recommend a good meal I eat eat that would tide me over through the entire night??

Have you tried cottage cheese before bed time?
If cals arent an issue for you have a protein shake with milk before bed.
Other than that nicks right youll have to have a little whey drink midway through the night ..
Let us know how you get on..

if you struggle to get that full feeling then add some extra fibre.Or eat a whole diplodicus :P

i use Casein protien power mixed with water, as it's a lot thicker than whey and takes longer for the body to digest, so should keep hunger at bay for a lot longer than whey. I also take oil with the Casein as this helps to slow the digestion down.

The above works fine for me, ive put no extra fat on by using the Casein at nght, which tends to be a concern for most people.

Default up in night

I cant stand cottage cheese in fact any cheese which is a shame as it is a great protein source especially with its high casein content , oh well .

instead I have casien I get from Bacarel by the 20 kg sac ( works out very cost effective !!! I have say 50 g mixed with half a litre of water an d also have 2 tablespoons of Biocare fish oil and 1 tablespoon of Granovita organic evening primrose oil ( prefer getting essential fats from the bottle compared to caps again more cost effective .

The only problem is I have to get up in the night for a piss due to the big drink but dont have any hunger pains till I wake up which is great because I get to eat one big breakfast . I suppose I get about 400-500 cal befroe bed which may seem a lot but I find fat and protein goes well at night and have not got fat because of this ritual . But then again it is hard to get fat consuming essental fats like epa,dha & gla. Also like someone previously said casein is a good choice to last the long fast through the night due to its slow release properties making it more anti catabolic compared to its faster cousin whey which I have a big shake of in the morning as soon as I get up before the big breakfast .

Hope this helps .

when you say you eat till your full - what exactly are you eating?

if its high GI carbs then probably about 3-4 hours after eating the insulin spike (which youll get if you eat high GI carns till your full) will wear off and youll be starving..

any low GI carbohydrate with a good protein source (solid food is better) should reduce this... also taking in some fats such as udos oil or even just some brazil nuts will slow digestion.. as will fibre - i.e. veg.

if all else fails and your still waking up hungry... why not eat??? as long as your not snacking on junk food wheres the problem?

A typical meal for me before I go to sleep is a chicken breast, whole wheat toast with peanut butter, and some skim milk....after this I'm pretty much bloated

I will eat a meal at 7:15, then one at 10 before I go to sleep. The meal consists of a slice a toast heavily lathered in chunky peanut butter and two-three glasses of milk....to be honest, I get full quick and would prob have the food come back up if I tried cramming any more down...
