Default muscle builder/weight gainer shakes

I've just bought a Muscle builder and weight gainer protein powder but am now wondering if it was the right thing to get.

My aim is to lose an inch or two off my guy and build a bit of muscle - I don't want to be Arnie but if I take my shirt off I want it to show that I workout.

Should I have gone for just a normal Muscle Builder instead? The product I've bought contains 28g of protein and 62g of carbs per serving.

If I've not bought the right product, why would someone want to gain wieght?

Sorry if I'm asking obvious questions...

Hi - welcome to the site.

1. decide whether you are cutting (losing fat) or bulking (gaining muscle and a little fat as a by-product)

2. Mass gain shakes are generally not too good as they contain masses of suger that is of no help to you in general. Some will agree that the shake you have bought is useful for a post workout meal replacement but thats all.

3. "why would someone want to gain wieght". It sounds like your really new to this. In that case look at the beginner sections of the diet and training sections of the site. If you gain muscle, it wieghs something right? So becoming more muscular will make you heavier.

Learn about the basics of diet and training and THEN look for supplements like shakes and all that. All you should need if you are trying to build muscle is a protien powder, not a mass wieght gainer.

Hope it helps,

fierce is right, unfortunately you cannot cut and bulk at the same time...if your present goal is to lose wieght and build muscle, hit the weights, get your diet in check and hit the cardio, but from what you have said, weight gainers will probablly be counter productive to your goals at this point...

Cheers for the replies - with regards to the above, isn't that what a protein shake will do? So why are there protein shakes AND weight gainers?

With regards to my training, I've looked around the site and it appears that in order to lose my gut and keep my muscle, I'll need to get to the level of muscle that I'm happy with and switch my training from 'building' to 'maintaining', and then work on the fat-burning at the same time - am i in the right direction?

kinda right...it is a tough balance to keep muscle and lose fat...many will "bulk" above thier target weight and allow even 3-4%bf then cut back down by about 5%bg to thier goal wieght, which would include your gut...cutting is different from maintenance...

As a supplement to your diet, a pure protien powder would be used to provide your worked muscles with building blocks they need to repair and grow. With a proper diet it is possible (and desirable for most) to bulk slowly and gain more lean body mass (muscle) than fat.

Mass gain shakes tend to go for calories over quality which leads to them being stuffed with suger. You gain wieght alright, but not the kind you want!

Ok thanks for that.

I'm happy with the muscle gains I've made so far and I don't want to lose them but my gut spoils the look so how would you suggest I keep the muscle and get rid of the belly?

Basically Mass Builders are for skinny/thin guys who struggle to build because they have fast metabolisms or guys who have hit a sticking point and are trying to break into new ground weight wise.

Whey or Protein blends are there to enhance recovery and allow muscle growth without allowing the body to gain additional fat.

There are also recovery formulas like our Build+Recover or CNP Pro Recover which have protein, carbs, vits and mins along with other stuff such as creatine or CLA, these are for after training and even though contain carbs WILL NOT make you fat because the body will use the carbs to replenish what has been burned during the workout.

Then We have Meal Reps which tend to have vits, mins, multiple protein sources and carb sources so they are digested over time like normal food. The carbs are normally pretty low so are ok for someone trying to drop fat too.

As a board member we give you 25% off anything you order from our site and still give you free delivery, all you do is put in the comments box you are a board member and your screen name.
