Default Sauna

Hey

I recently joined my local sports centre just for the sauna and steam room facilities. I dunno about you but having a scorching sauna straight after a workout is a real luxury to me.

Question is, does it have any fat burning properties? I meant in the short term it would increase the blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and make you sweat, but are any of these enough to have any effect on your metabolic rate or increase fat burning?

One thing which is quite cool after a sauna is that it accents your ripped look, i.e. it sheds subcutaneous water super fast and because of the hot look you look darker (redder), and almost oiled up from the sweat/water, so it makes you feel good.

As my progress journal says, its helped me shed about 3 - 5 lbs of water weight over the last few days, and its a nice little confidence booster.

Definitely worth the 50 i forked out for the facilities for the next 3 months !

Nick

Good post nick,

It will be to no surprise to you that i dont no the answer to your question regarding sauna having an impact on fat burning, but i was thinking exactly the same thing theese last thew months.
Since doing my first cycle i seem spottier and alough its getting better i was thinking of the sauna to help me clear my pores, but im bulking and i presummed id loose a lot of water and weight so decided against using it.

PS is going in a sauna after training a good or bad idea while on a bulking steroid cycle?, with regards to raising heart rate, blood preassure and mayby restrict gains slightly.I would of thought raising heart rate by going in saunas and sun beds would be slightly dangourous when on gear but most seem to use the sun beds and stuff while on gear to prevent the spots which usually acompany the cycle.

Potentially yeah i suppose it could be quite dangerous.

Generally you shouldnt go for a sauna straight after training, i leave it about an hour for my temperature and heart to calm down a bit !

I would say its fine on a bulk, maybe not too good on a steroid cycle.

But its only as dangerous as how hard you push yourself... if you stay in there for like 30 minutes on a super hot sauna (i personally put it as hot as it can possibly go with about 2 litres of water on the boiler and stay about 5 minute intervals) then you might be in for some trouble.

But its simple if its too hot and you feel uncomfortable then sit lower or leave.

Divie I wouldnt worry about losing weight in saunas, its not like its muscle weight, just useless water. Weight is just a number, it doesn't mean anything, lean mass is what is important.

Thermogenic effects are based on your body burning extra calories to heat itsself (usually via stimulants or beta2 antagonists such as clen), NOT based on the actual temperature you are at - that is not relevent.

hmmm...

then why is it that people in generally hot climates have less fat than people in cold climates? (not taking into account evolutionary differences)

And why when we have a temperature when we are ill do we often lose weight?

No idea on general dietary differences between hot/cold climate cultures, however I think we all know that weight loss while ill is not fat burning, you can put it down to dehydration, glycogen levels, whatever.

Nick
What kind of evidence do you have to support that theory?

Maybe if they have a better climate they feel like walking more than they would if it was raining and tend to cycle a lot more than using the car! Just a thought!
