Default Fat loss - meal replacement drinks

Hi everyone, for as long as I can remember Ive wanted to body build, at this relatively late stage (33) Ive decided to go for it, but firstly I need to shed the years of booze, cheap food and lazy arsed TV watching. My job is very time consuming and I find I have no time for breakfast and usually eat lunch on the run. I try my up-most to eat well, but it doesnt always happen so what Ive been looking for is a meal replacement drink that will give me everything I need in as few calories as possible.

I went to a local body building supplies shop and they pointed me to MET-Rx METAMYOSYN, I looked at it and got the feeling that that is more for the active builder rather than someone wanting to loose weight in preparation for training.

Id really appreciate your thoughts and recommendations.

Thanks, Chris.

Check out nick's MRP shake:

http://www.musclechat.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2813

Half the size, and you have a pretty good 500kcal meal.

Also do a bit of web searching - there are plenty of good shakes available. I generally alternate between the above, and dymatize mega milk + powdered oats.

if you are looking to drop some fat the I think that Nicks shake would be a little heavy tbh.

get a simple diet structure to begin with. you should be looking at 5-6 small meals a day, it may seem like a lot when youre trying to loose weight but they should be clean and will help keep your metabolism up.

a mrp or the like at breakfast sounds good in your case but I would go for maybe Reflex progen or myoplex carb sense, something along those lines and mix it with water (it will still taste good).

if youre eating on the move then tesco do some great cooked chicken and cut out the sugary carbs.

you could also look to supplement with a fat loss aid. some of these are crap but some are good, Ive found CNPs pro-cla to be good, stay away from the 'loose weight overnight' type of claims!

If you are looking to lose weight then yeah definitely its not ideal to have my shake in its full glory. If you were to halve or third it it could be good as a meal replacement for the morning when you don't have time to properly prepare something substantial to eat. Also, maybe drop to water only and limit the peanut butter a bit more if u want to shed calories.

Also, as bungee says, get training. the more muscles you have, the faster you will burn calories and in turn shed the fat. This is one of the reasons why the massive guys are able to cut like 50lbs from off-season to competition standard (although many other factors apply).

by the way, MRP means meal replacement powder, and is an effective way to boost up your protein levels that you require for building muscle, as well as giving you a healthy meal when you have no real time to prepare, at a relatively low cost.

good luck and keep posting up your progress. Perhaps a good time to start a thread in the progress journals part of the site at: http://musclechat.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=23

Nick

Just do:

2 scoops whey - 220kcals
1 banana - 100kcals
250ml milk - 125kcals
250ml water - 0kcals
1tbsp peanut butter - 95kcals

= 500-550kcals

IMO this is fine for a meal replacement (even on a cut) - and is what I currently drink while at work rather than eating.

my only concern with that, buddy, would be a lack of complex carbs and for myself a little sugary, 5 grams of carbs per 100ml of milk all derived from sugar.
just my opinion, of course, Im sure its doing the biz for you but for me my first meal Im looking to take in a lot more complex carbs.

Keep in mind, while lactose is technically a sugar, it has a low GI of around 45 - this is lower than oats. Similarly (depending on ripeness), the banana is not especially high GI.

However if you are particularly bothered about complex carbs, perhaps substitute the banana/milk for a similar portion of oats to thicken it up and add the complex carbs.

Im just not a fan of milk when dieting but thats a fair enough point that you made, bro.

CL if at the ripe old age of 33 (still younger than me!) I'm guessing you want a powder that has everything rolled into 1, vits, mins, protein and good carbs.

MET-RX was the bollox 10 years ago, and the American product is not the same product as we get here due to restrictions made by the EC, there are many more modern meal reps which have overtaken Met-Rx.

We make one with 4 protein sources, 2 carb sources, 33% of your daily vits and mins with 1gr of creatine. The reason for the formula is to help make you feel full for longer and to make it very hard for the body to store any of it as fat.

CNP do a good one too but is more expensive than ours, if you need any further advice just pm me.
