Default Protein & Carb shakes

Does anyone have any really good recipes for carb and protein shakes, I take whey protein chocolate flavoured shakes which are fine but boring after a while, looking for more tasty and perhaps cheaper alternatives (home made) as I go through loads!

I know its not always best to get protein from too many shakes instead of meals but with weird working hours its usually more convenient.

I have recently been mixing my after workout protein shake with some porage oats to coombine carbs with the protein, is this good practice?

Then I have a proper evening meal about 50 min's later, pasta, chicken etc simple carb.

Dave.

oats are great to add to a shake but it's not the best idea using them in your post workout shake, replace this with some maltodextrin post workout

Hey Dave,

I have been training for a few years now and am a hard gainer due to all of the cardio I do for my kickboxing.

Best way to go for your is to have about 70-80grams of Maltodextrin mixed in your water bottle and drink it while your training. ( I slip a bit of cordial in there as well due to the taste, it's not bad just a bit dry in your mouth afterwards ). Another tip is to take your protein to the gym and drink straigh after you finish ( literally minutes ). This way your bady is using the carbs for energy and protein for muscle while you afre travelling home for tea !

Just my 2 cents !!

Hey all,

This is my fisrt post apart from saying hi, but i agree with Ric. I sip a carb drink during training. About 60g shake. Sip half during then drink the rest soon as im finished training, i also then drink a protein shake once i finish then have a proper meal about 45mins later.
I also slip some gluatamine in there as well.
