Hey mate

All I will say is this, it is dangerous!

Eating without almost no carbs at all throughout the day is going to damage your health, an this diet encourages it.

I tried it a little while ago and felt so lathargic I had to come off it. Basically you need to have all carbs before midday, and then all protein after that. Or you ould have little carbs for 5-6 days and then binge out on carbs for one day, I find it much better and the body adapts better too!

You will probably find that your strength will decrease alot, can't sleep, and your body can actually shut down.

You are far better off just eating the right portions every day, and then eat 4-5 times a day if you are not too serious. But stick with Carbs all morning and then proteins until bedtime!

Atkins is no good for lifters or regualr gym users, ketosis is a scientific fact and works but not practical. Try it if you get injured and cant train but want to keep your weight down.

Gareths on the money with carb loading diets, loading phase on sat and sunday then have no carbs all week till next saturday, you will be tired by friday but not as bad and the weight will fall off with exercise. Make sure you load up properly on the weekend though, 500g of carbs at least on each day!

I agree with Ian.

I normally have all of my carbs before 12pm, and then protein throughout the day, but I have a cheat day and load up on carbs normally on a sunday.

I have read that Mr Olympia no 8, Troy Alves cheats on a Sunday and takes in about 10,000 calories. Basically so it fills him out completely.

You need atleast 1 day a week with a load of carbs in order for your body to re-cuperate!

I agree with all of the above.

If you workout regularly then you need carbs in your diet to fuel your muscles. If you work out with weights then you need carbs to lift as heavy as possible otherwise you just wouldnt be able to get through it.

I have tryed it about 2yrs ago and I felt crap, was snappy, moody, tired, hungrey and was spending loads on food. After 8 days I gave up.

Avoid like the plaque and feed your body good quality nutrition (40% Carbs, 40% Protein & 20% Fat) balanced throughout the day i.e. 6-7 meals a day.

totally disagree with what has been said above...

using a Keto style diet which is what the Atkins diet is can and will help you shed the pounds and you can maintain this very healthily for long periods of time as long as you make sure that you replace the carbs with good fats and not just bad saturated fats.

I use carb cycling when dieting for shows and 4 out of 7 days i eat zero carbs i still have the energy to do 90min of cardio per day and train with weights because i replace the carbs with good fats taken from sources like
Olive Oil
Udo's Oil
Salmon
Mackerel
Egg yolks...etc...etc

their have been plenty of studies in recent years to prove that utilising a low carb moderate fat high protein diet can be beneficial to both muscle building and fat loss...

also was you aware that you need fats in your diet to produce natural test...

so to dismiss the Keto style diets as dangerous is wrong and misleading in my opinion..

yes you will feel lethargic if you do not replace the carbs with good fats and plenty of them soon enough which is the one thing that most people don't do when following this type of diet as they are afraid of eating too many fats...
