Default Is it too late to start Karate, Judo etc?

I've always wanted to train for Ninjistu, but during my childhood I was too afraid to try and attend a class. Would it be too late to try during my late teens?

Never too late to start. If it's Ninjutsu you're after look for a Bujinkan Budo Tai Jitsu class as this covers Ninjutsu. This style is well suited to someone older as it doesn't require super fitness or strength to do learn. Certain martial arts you may be beyond you're peak for competing in at top level, such as Judo, although they still run masters comps in many disciplines. Aside from competition you are never too old to learn for fitness, self defence or the many other benefits.

i was in my twenties when i began shotokan karate... i stopped when i was 32 and that was after i got my 2nd dan black belt and competed for scotland and britain in tournaments.

loved every single hour of my training. i trained 4 nights per week. at my club and also as a guest at another club ( different style).

doesnt matter what age you are, go for it.

I’m assuming you’ve been reading about Shaolin or Samuri training children from a very young age due to the potential joint flexibility and rapid adaptation to flexibility of the pre adolescent , and given that wondered if your late teens is to late to start…?

Go for it you’ll never be any younger and your late teens is very young – true you are unlikely to ever have the flexibility of the above disciplines but then I doubt you’ll ever train 8-hours a day for seven days a week... but if you do who knows...

I first trained in free style and my instructor wouldn’t entertain anyone under 18 as his view was any younger and you don’t have the mental discipline.

Go for it!

Thumbs up Re: Is it too late to start Karate, Judo etc?

It is never to late to start any martail art,i have been doing judo for 15 years,my coach has been training for over forty.
Judo will keep you supple and flexable,it is is great for stress relief,as soon as i step into my dojo, all my troubles from the day disappear.
Go down and give it a go you will not regeat it
