musclematxxx, its not like people can give an answer to this properly on an internet forum...

perhaps when you have 20 years of training to the highest standards of martial arts and have foughts 10000 fights, you will understand the true meaning of how to overcome pain...

or perhaps you'll achieve it next week when you stub your toe on the stairs...

who knows/cares?

Nick

hahahahaha  very nice sense of humour you have, very funny. well i wasnt only talking about pain but talking about the ability to keep going, to face challenges. Its called PSYCHOLOGY and mental toughness is part of sports psychology. Isnt this a sports forum???or people dont read here but just pump up???i did sports psychology at college but i thought that perhaps there would be a few here who would have a high knowledge of sports pyschology or did some extent research on the matter to help their workout.well seems i was wrong.nevermind......

mental toughness is something your born with i reckon although you can improve on this by understanding adrenalin and constantly exposing yourself to situations your not comfortable with, in this case fighting.
tbh i still struggle with this when sparring if i get hurt but im getting better by pushing myself further each time. i truly believe fitness plays a huge part in this as anyone that fights knows when your gassed it is SO hard to keep going and thats what seperates a true fighter from another.

read this article by rick young it may help you focus a bit more:

So is this to do with you becoming an underground bare knuckle prize fighter ?

I read at another forum these posts from you

Quote:
hi
im a student, low on cash and i was thinking of fighting for money. However i have no idea where i can go.I live in north london, and witht he money i would be able to get some actual training in fighting. Also all venues out there you have to have a card and a rtainer to be allwoed to fight. I was wandering if there were any no hold barred venues, like underground stuff where i dont need that stuff. thanks

guys guys please dont fight. nick i guess i wanan fight to see how tough i am.plus i have a lot of anger to get rid of ,anyways so gold i just turn up at my local boxing clubs and thats it??i used to go train at one but when i asked the guy when i could fight he said i would have to train there for like a year and get a card before i was allwed to fight
I have heard stories of guys having their biceps almost torn off by other peoples teeth in the kind of places you talk about.

no different from the streets then. at least in there you are fighting against one man. in the streets its you against a lot of them sometimes because ****heads who go out looking for fights always go out in packs. mthey use weapons on you and leave you for dead and for stupid reasons. If i received a penny anytime i nealry got in a fight against a group of guys because they were checking out my girlfriend i would be rich. lucky i am tall and big. At the end of the day its dangerous everywhere. You might get killed tomorrow just walking down your street.

Anyways being a bare knuckle fighter was just a silly idea. However being fit and strong for fighting is a neccessity. Its a very violeent world.
I was bullied as a kid and now i want to toughen myself up mentally and physcially so when somebody tries to hurt me or somebody i love, i can send them in hospital or to the morgue.

Hey Matt,

Sounds to me that you are an angry/vulnerable guy. Understandable as you were bullied. I think the best thing you can do is...

1. Concentrate on passing whatever it is your studying while getting as fit as you can, get a job to fund some real learning about martial art/fighting.

2. Get a job now while at college to fund the above.

If I wanted to be 'fighting fit' i would run every other day to build up endurance. On the days I was not running i would do a complete bodyweight exercise routine - press-ups, pull=ups, sit-up, 200-300 free squats.

I would be much less concerned with getting 'Bigger' (although it cant hurt).

My goal would be functional strength and the ability to endure.

Check out a guy called Matt Fury for his 'Combat Conditioning' book. I did 200 hindu squats quite easily one day. I honestly could NOT move the for the next two days. More pain than I have EVER had doing wieghted squats. Check it out.

I hope this advice helps, I feel its the most practical thing you can do.

Remember, there are no quick fixes...

 Fierce
