Id guess kickboxing , but if you really want self defence just learn boxing.

Im no street fighter but im just guessing,

and the fist is quicker than the foot =]

The ultimate fighting machine IMO is a mix of a boxing / brazilian Jiu jitsu / Wrestling. Thats not what you asked but just feel like saying it.

I did aikido for 3 years and it came in handy sometimes but all need to be adapted to a certain degree.
Most aren't taught to be used in a real sitution and are waterered down versions of the original art.

Good luck learning all that, I think its hard enough to learn one at a time. Most people goto black belt before learning another I thought.

for street fighting go with mma (mixed martial arts), unreal. you learn kicks punches elbows etc, and wrestling holds etc for when you go to ground. about to start doing it on the back of 2 years thai boxing, cant wait!!

I did 2 years of Ju-Jitsu, its an awesome skill with many of the blocks and throws leading to a break if executed properly.

I also did freestyle kickboxing which was less deadly but more effective in street situations and as a doorman I combined some of the arm, wrist and neck holds with leg kicks which were the most effective way of slowing an opponent down without punching them to the face which invariably led to them showing signs of damage which would have led to me getting charged.

Personally I think Tae Kwon Do sucks, I had to go toe to toe with one of the Scottish team and he never got a hand on me and took a real hiding from me. I know people who do it and as a discipline teaching control, humility and basic skills it is ok but not as style which will make you "handy".
