However, there is no real substitute for it at the end of the day if you really want to learn how to defend yourself. Whatever the style, find a good teacher. The best aren't arrogant, but do demand respect in their dojo. If you have any common sense, you can tell the good from the bad almost immediately. ______________________ WIRED - A SHORT FILM |

| Under Construction | yeah obviosuly like no kicking in the groin. but when you are talkign about a muay thai bout without rules you mean that basically they are allowed to throw in elbows, knees and even throws. basically all the lethal techniques practiced in thailand by proper muay thai fighters. muay thai with rules is basically no elbows, no knees and no throws. Just watch eurosport from time to time or see if u can see videos of it ont the net and you will understand ______________________ Never give up.you should enjoy life to the full |

| Under Construction | the guy gets thrown and then they obviously have to stand back up.i was watching europsort this week(fight club)and there was a muay thai competition between thailand and ....i forgot(it was like last week)something. anyways there was marco pique in it.well youness got thrown by this thai guy and got his back injured. there were a lot of takedowns but thai ones. you train in thailand?cos thats where they etach proper muay thai. You have places in europe where the muay thai fighters arent allowed elbows, just watch eurosport man. cos of the danger. http://www.brickfist.com/5.Martial_A...ollection.html here go watch this if u dont believe me.one guy gets thrown down n then kicked in the head. i couldnt find anymore with actual throw downs so just research on the internet. if the link doesnt work just go on www.brickfist.com, click on martial arts and then click on muay thai collection. enjoy ______________________ Never give up.you should enjoy life to the full |

Obviously your experience of TKD os Soley with Olympic Style WTF . The ITF Style of TKD is a Martial art rather than a out & out sport . TKD as a martial art is all encompassing & ever evolving. It utilises strikes with elbows, fists, knees, locks, pressure points & restraints. I am TKD instructor a registered Bodygaurd and doorman, I would call on my skills as a TKD jeja without doubt or question. It is often the case that politics and bigotry in Martial arts clouds the issues, when the fact is that each and every martial art has its place, but you must realise that if you only have limited knowlege it is always dangerous, be open to all at take what you can use...... In the words of bruce Lee ( who took a lot from Tae kwon do) be like water my friend! The fact is, I could jump up and kick you in the face with a spinning 360 turning kick, if I was sparring - but I'm not going to do that on the street, but imagine how strong and fast that leg is going to be when I aim it at your knee in the street and take your knee cap off!!! Sorry if this sound a little aggresive but I feel I must defend the art you seem so freely to disrespect . Any doubts read Mr Dave Oliver's books. Better still go to a club and give it ago. woah there big guy! good post and i totally see what your saying but you obviously have an understanding of street fighting and can adapt your art to suit. i worked with a top tkd guy on the doors for years and he was deadly on the street but like yourself he didnt use any fancy moves. mostly a good headbutt tbh! as one martial art to choose for self defence i personally wouldnt reccomend tkd as the distance and strikes used are not street based imho. it is predominantly a kicking art which is not applicable in the street in most situations or when it kicks off in the pub on friday night. now im not for a minute saying you havnt got what it takes mate im sure you have but if i was to reccomend one art to study im sorry but tkd would not be it. | |
