Default Protein in foods.

My bank balance is taking a hit due to all the chicken I'm eating, so I'm looking to explore other areas where protein can be picked up cheaply.

Just been taking a look and Soya Mince is pretty cheap from Tesco.

99p for 375g
51.1g of Protein per 100G
20.1g of Carbs per 100g
12.2g of Fibre per 100g
2.1g of Fat per 100g

Sounds like a pretty good all round food to stick in to replace meat!

Just wondering what you guys use instead of chicken/tuna to keep that protein high?

Beef for me. Cheese if you want it. I don't like fish that much but tinned tuna is pretty cheap.

I load up on Tuna in tins when it's on offer, Buy one get one free on the packs of 4 for example.

I love Steaks, Fillet and Sirloin, but I thought mince etc had a lot of fat in it and was quite low in protein?I guess it's better than no protein!

All Soya foods and milk are a good, cheap source of protein. On a budget or not.And should be a staple for all diets IMO.Meat most definately is'nt the be all and end all of protein rich foods.Beans,Tofu,Lentils, and other Legumes.Grains,Nuts and Seeds, especially Pumpkin seeds are sky high.Peanut butter, yoghurt, cottage cheese and don't forget Egg's.

The mince I get is 25g to 30g Protein / 100g, with about 10g Fat / 100g

Soya flour, made by extracting the oil from soya beans, can be processed and dried to produce spongy textured vegetable protein which is often flavoured and cut into chunks to look like meat.e.g.Chicken,mince.

I must admit that soya mince is pretty damn close to its beefy counterpart. And in a saucy meal you would'nt tell the difference. The same go's for the 'chicken' pieces aswell. Its prolly the texture that gives it away.Spongey instead of chewy.

Alpro soya milk has 9.4g of protein per 250ml.
