Default Calorie intake

Hey folks,

I am currently trying to cut fat and add muscle at the same time, my current weight is 231 and I'm 6'4. I have a big gut and the rest is starting to even out. my question is I currently take in approx 2000 cals a day and do cardio 5-6 days a week and burn(according to the treadmill) about 500 calories. do you think I need to add more cals to my diet. I eat fairly clean. mrp shakes being a large part due to living in a hotel for work and not being able to cook. I don't eat any fast food. is my body going into starvation mode at this level should I up to 2500 a day....
Thanks,
Steve

hi steve

understand 2 principles:

to burn fat: calorie DEFICIT, i.e. burn more calories than you take in

to build muscle: calorie SURPLUS, i.e. more calories taken in, therefore weight put on.

(assuming diet is clean and high protein).

Do you see that on your current diet, which at 231 and 6'4 you are taking in only 2000 cals a day (way too low can i say), there is no way you will build significant muscle.

My tip:

lose the fat, run at a deficit of 500 - 750 calories a day until your happy with the fat level, then go into surplus again.

Nick
