Default HIIT Training

Hi,

I am new to HIIT training so just had a couple of queries:

Firstly, what sort of timing do you do? I.e I did it fro the 1st time yesterday and was jogging for 90 secs and then sprinting for 45secs-1 min, does this sound about right?

Also, how long should sessions last? I was on the treadmill for about 12-13 mins and was completely knackered, looked like I had been working out for hours

Thanks
Mark

like everything - start at a level that suits you and then increase progressively.

2:1 works for me

So 2mins intense running, 1 min to wind down jog and wind the treadmill back up again.

Tabatas PWO (20:10) is my fave though

thanks for that then, the reason I ask , is that sime people say that if you do more than 20 mins, it wasnt intense enough etc etc

So like I said I was on for 13 mins and knackered, so guess I can say it was instense (for me at least)

Thanks again
Mark

An important point that you need to bear in mind is that it takes anything up to 20 minutes of steady cardio work for your body to consume the sugars in your system before it turns to your body fat stores for energy. You're preference is HIIT so your heart rate is higher but the longer you can go the better the results will be.You've only just started out so don't beat yourself up over it just yet.Your fitness will improve over time and that will anable you to gradually add minutes to your workout which will in turn mean more calories burned.

i was told last week on me wabba course that if youre very fit you can get into the fat burning zone within 5 mins if youre very fit.

i hate quoting stats but apparently if you do cardio after weights (and i dunno if i`m saying it right) but you burn fat 300% faster than doing cardio alone. (or something like that)

The last bit sounds about right.

Wouldn't the first bit depend on glycogen storage?
