I would also suggest investing in a heart rate monitor watch (you'll also have to wear a cheast strap to read your heartbeat). Basic premise being 210 minus your age = your Max Heart rate.

Whilst jogging/running/cycling etc you shouldn't go over 80% of your max - otherwise you'll hear your heart rate monitor beep. If you go under 60% you'll hear it beep again. Basically it keeps you in the zone.

It'll stop you from undertraining and overtraining. It'll get you fit in the quickest amount of time. All runners use them.

Some even have a test on them to record your fitness level from your resting heartbeat. (You can even compare yourself to an Olympic athlete). I did alot of research and found out where to buy 'em cheap(er).

Also - invest in a pair of running trainers. I see too many ppl jogging with 'normal' trainers. Asics running trainers can be had for as little as 25 from the high street. And if you find running is your thing - then invest in a more expensive pair.
