Default Is this a genetic problem

Regardless that I am an ectomorph and work out on and off. I always see results except one place my latissimus dorsi. I think thats what it is called. I know deadlifts dont concentrate on that spot but deadlifts have made the muscles along my spine much bigger. Along with other back excercises my rhomboids grow too, anywhere on my body, except I do have issues with my biceps. Anyways, I always thought bent overrows, pullups and chiins were best for this muscle. I am working out again and was wondering what you guys do for this muscle. What are the best excercises to get this muscle to grow? Is there a routine anyone would recommend. Maybe its just a genetic thing too..

Thanks for the help

How long have you been training for? And what would a typical back session look like for you bud?

I train on and off, I am not even close to as serious as you guys but I do like this site alot because everyone is friendly and informative. I worked out for 8 months straight and then didnt work out for 16 months. Now I started up again and its been a month. Right now I just do a typical 3 day a week full body workout but down the road I will switch it up. I did see some growth in lats during the 8 month span but it just seems so hard for them to grow compared to everything else. I guess my annoyance comes from that I feel like I have a waist of a girl. Thats hot...

Anyways, if I was going to do a back workout it would involve pullups, then closegrip cable pulldowns, if thats what they are called, and then bent over rows and variations over time.

Thanks for any input

I think you've answered your own question mate...

You just need consistancy, weekly progress and most importantly - TIME!

Try something like Deads, Chins and Rows but try and make progress each week, give it a year and you should see some results.

Everything takes time in this game - you won't see results overnight.

Your Lats are pretty large muscles and require some beating to stimulate an anabolic recovery.Chin ups, wide, close grip and straight arm pull downs are my weapons of choice. Not all on the same session.Week by week.Form is an important factor too.Nice straight back, squeeze the muscle at the bottom of the pull, contol up.There are way too many 'swingers' on Lat machines these days. All they will grow themselves is a nice hernia and not alot of Latimus. They are also the first muscles you should hit on back day IMO.They require the most effort and need the best part of your energy.Thats not to take anything away from bent over rows so to avoid getting into a rutt these two exercises should be rotated with each other maybe.

What issues are you having with your biceps?Apart from the obvious!

About the biceps..

I was more concerned about the lats cause I like doing back excecises. I like doing shoulders and back, and what a surprise those are my strongest body parts. As my back got stronger, I felt the lats were behind. Which probably doesnt make sense since the lats are a huge part of the back. Maybe I'm using arms and rhomboids too much.

Anyways, my biceps are weaker cause I just don't like doing them. I think my outer bracchialis are much smaller, hence I do some straight bar curls with my hands facing towards the ground. That would make sense to do that excercise right? The only other excerise that I thought was good for thicker biceps was straight bar curls hands facing the ceiling... I lack patience overall, I just think it gets me frustrated at the gym. I know it takes time, but I always feel at a major disadvantage being an ectomorph.

Other than the lat problem I guess I really need patience to get through the plateaus when training.

Thanks again!!!
