Default Squats and Deads on same day?

Hey guys,

Just would like to hear some peoples opinions on the idea of doing squats and deadlifts on the same day (Leg day) I did it for the first time and it really destroyed my legs. But could this be too much?

Thanks

This is a bodybuilding site for the most part , so the likely response will be to seperate them.

However some powerlifters squat and deadlift on the same day.

I have recently been doing so also and i like it. It then gives me longer to rest my legs/lower back inbetween sessions.

One session is

Trap bar deadlifts ( these hit quads nicely)
box squats (these hit quads, but also a lot of ham and glute recruitment)

Next is.

back squats
straight leg deadlift

I also do my other pulling movements on the leg/back day.

Its basically what the westside powerlifters do.

Some might say you can not do justice to all the lifts, but i dont rush through my sets and sometimes take as long as 5 mins between my heaviest sets.

Im liking it so far, so just experiment mate. There are no hard and fast rules, find what works for you

Well said Bull.

On the flip-side of that,i like to keep my squats and dead's as far apart as i can,so i can use maximum effort on both type's of exercise and not use one routine as a drop down from the other.

I've done squats and deadlifts on the same day times, I find your performance can be dictated by which exercise you do first. On days when I have done deadlifts then squats, I'm so knackered after deads that my squating is a bit half hearted. I fint better to do squats first, but then, I'm a short arse and deadlift with predominatly my back. Nowadays I keep them seperate because I find them both so demanding.

On leg day now I do both.

So like 4 sets squat and 3 sets of straight leg deadlift!

I do normal deadlifts on back day as well! yes much deadlifting

i havent tried both on the same day, but personally i think i couldnt do one after the other as both really take it out of me. After squats or deads im pretty much like the walking dead LOL

squatting and deading on the same day, if your back can handle it, is the most anabolic combination of exercises you can do.
go for it.

I would avoid if you've any back problems.

I wouldn't do the deadlifts and squats on the same week, never mind the same day - my lower back injury would just flare up again.

Everyone's different though - so give it a go and see.

I've gone Squats and SLDL as my Leg day before @ 5x5.

Its a killer - but I loved it.

I don't think I could handle Squats + Conventional Deads if I were to work out to my normal level.

Let us know how you get on with it.
