I think it's all relative, some people prefer less sets, some prefer more, I read once in arnies book that he recomended something like 16-17 sets per body part!! It all depends, if I'm doing chest, I'll 3 work sets for upper chest (incline) 3 middle (flat) and 3 lower (decline) and then maybe flies or dips so all in all I may be do 12-15 sets per body part. Other days, I'll do a similar volume with less weight but pre-exhaust each press with flies, maybe 12 reps of flies and then imediatly push 8 reps of presses (I however only count it as one set despite 2 exercises) Many more educated people than me will give you some advice, but I think it is all relative, dependant on the intensity of ur workout, wether your doing ur whole body on one day or doing some form of split routine, wether you are 'chemically enhanced', and the volume of repetitions per set. I have been training intensly for about 18 months and found that I had to learn alot by myself; making and learning from mistakes is a great learning tool (so long as u avoid injury). Feel it out mate, do what ever you have to do maximise ur workouts. Everyone is different and I don't think any theories in bodybuilding are an exact science. It's all about knowing that ur improving. My advice would be to keep a log of all ur weights and measurements and over time evaluate what is working or not working for u. |
