Default lower back prob

this is my current routine
workout 1
squats
incline press
dips
shoulder press

workout 2
deads
chins
cable rows
bicep curls
side bends

I have been getting lower back pain and I think this area is being over trained due to squats and deads in the same week.
I currently squat more than I dead so would it be a good idea to swap squats for leg presses and work on getting the weight up on deads?
would this effect overall growth coz I do here squats are important!!!!

p.s. also was thinking of putting shoulder presses with back and abs with chest.

I'll leave it in the knowledgeable hands of you muscle chat members!!

Squats are a great exercise. (infact the daddy)

But if you cant squat productively while keeping injury free then dont squat

Swap for leg press and see how you get on mate.

Get somebody to check ya squat form first would be my advice tho

Ref. shoulder press. Thats a personal choice mate

It may be the case that your deadlift form is off and you are putting too much strain on your lumbars.

I was in the same position not too long ago.

Get someone to check your deadlift and squat form - or fire a video up if you can't get anyone who knows their stuff to do it in person.

Are you doing stretches for your lower back...?

I have had similar problems caused by one single dodgy rep of a dead lift.

How bad is the pain? Is it just an ache or is it that bad you cant move/bend properly? I corrected my problem by dropping squats and deads for a while, and strengthening my lumbars by doing hyper extensions. After that a resumed squating and deadlifts at a low weight and progressed from there. If I ever allow my form to deteriorate even a little bit I get bad back ache.

Thank for the help! I dont think form is too bad but you guys are right I think it is worth checking. The pain is not just a muscular ache it hurts to bend down but i dont get it if i squat or deadlift only when i do both so maybe its being over trained. I just had a full week off training and did squats on sunday and my back still feels fresh! not doing stretches for lower back will give that a try.

Maybe you have dodgy form on dumbell presses or something. Do you do behind the neck presses?

Daft question...

How come people do/are advised to do behind the neck presses / pulldowns behind the neck...?

I have done them in the past and they just gave me neck pain... Kinesiology would suggest they shouldn't be done...

I don't think they should be done. Too much stress on the neck. I was asking because behind the neck presses have given me shoulder pain in the past. I never do them now, and never will.
