Post Weight Of The Bar On The Smith Machine

I was going to post a question asking how much the bar on the Smith Machine weighed...

Then I imagined all the replies I would get...
- "... What Smith are you using ..."
- "... How long is a peice of string ..."
- "... I dont use the Smith ..."

etc... Hi TH&S fans by the way

So instead I'll post the question a different way...

Whats the best weigh of establishing how much the Bar on the Smith Machine in my gym weighs...?

I've never included the weight of the bar on my Smith previously as I'd assumed it was counter balanced, but I dropped it the other day and it went crashing to the floor as opposed to gliding smothly down...

If it weighs 20kg I'll be over the moon as that means I'm Squatting 180kg, and my max Bench is 85kg for 4 reps...

lol that was to be my first question... whether or not it was assited.. if it is (and you dont take the assitance off) i wouldnt imagine it weighed enough to even mention..

does the bar look the same as an olympic bar? thickness etc? if so id go with 20k myself.

unless you want to take some hanging scales to the gym with you and check lol.

Your quite right mate, they can vary from gym to gym or basically make to make. And there is no accounting for the friction you get on them, when i used gyms years ago they used to weigh around 20kg and i think they take into account the friction, as you well know the bar glides up over another bar using plastic gliders so u will get a little resistance there.

smith machines are very good though, used to do incline chest on them.

You shore you got your squatting right 180kg seems a lot dude, like 4 big plates either side, this is some going.

Ello

If we count the weight of the Bar at an assumed 20kg then its 180kg.

However I've not been including the bar, so I have 160kg of weight on the bar, which I've been calling 160kg.

Sadly my gym isn't good on plates so its more like 25+20+15+10+5+5, but 80kg a side yeah.

I don't do high reps though - I do 2 warm up sets and the odd single and then 5x5.

For high reps (10-15) I'd have to back down on weight by 15%/20%

Until I find an answer I think I'm just gonna call the bar 0kg

The Smith is easier than the Cage though (sadly we dont have one...) as it doesn't use your stabalishing muscles.

I dont have any options to take assistance on or off...

yeah its the same thickness as the Olypmic bar - cos I nab the 25kg plates from the FreeWeight end of the gym to slap on for Squats.

hah hah 20kg hanging scales! Can you see me now...?

Think ive offended to many people, for anyone to take notice. lol... I did start one off but found it to a bit personal and im quite a private person. If i use drugs then i'd prefer to keep that private and if i had a journal and did not reveal this then i'd feel like im cheating people. So rather not start one.

Im away in a few weeks for 2 weeks, when im going to convert to a natty, no more drugs... God knows what my insides look like.

Yeah you can do a warts and all log if you want to...

Or you can just post up progress in terms of routine, weight lifted, current weight etc etc

You dont have to tell everything do you? For example LeeB in his log has said he will be using additional chemical supplements, but won't be going into detail unless explicitly asked/its relevant...
