Default 5x5 routine ??

my mate started doing this routine this week. thinking about switching to it, mainly coz it's less hassle if we're doing the same thing. (currently doing 3 sets of 8-12 at the mo).

anyone used it or done a similar? what are thoughts on it? do you rate it?

would be grateful for any advice.

I think its an excellent routine. I just used it on core lifts such as bench press, rows and squats.

Excuse my ignorance. Is that doing five sets of five reps?

I agree with Andy1981Iron - this is a great routine when used with the basic compound exercises. Prepare yourself not to leave the gym with the same pumped feeling as volume training but believe me you'll be laying some great foundations for future training if you stick with it.

i keep the weight constant for all sets.
its not obligatory tho, just as long as youre adding weight to the bar...

thanks. will keep that in mind. thinking of going down the route of keeping a set weight, with adding say 5-10kg on the final set. then the week after, starting with what i finished on, and so on..

and hopefully be i'll be able to surpass my targets!

I keep more in the 6-8 rep range when not doing 5x5.
