Default neck exercises

hi all,
can anyone recommend any exercises for building neck muscles?
I have thought about buying one of those maximuscle neck slings, has anyone used one. just wondering what there results were from using it.
Just want to try and build the neck muscles to create a thicker/wider looking neck.
cheers.

I have used a head strap type thing before, i wouldnt really say it was over neccesary, unless u are involved in contact sports.

But if u really want a thicker neck concentrate on building your traps up too bud, just my opinion.

ok cheers mate, I have been working on my traps and it definately has helped to a degree, I was just thinking using the the head strap would hit different parts of the neck and therfore build it better to.

I personally find deadlifts, rack deadlifts and shrugs build my neck up good enough (21" collar shirts for work!). However a thick neck aint all its cracked up to be coz finding shirts, either work or going out, is a major pain in the ass. In fact virtually impossible.

However,
Instead of forking out cash for a headstrap, just use a towel. Its easier to alter the resistance, doesn't cost a bean and its easier to relieve tension if something pulls wrongly.
Just wrap it round yer bonce and pull with the opposite arm. You can do this in all 4 directions in almost the same time it would take to load up, fasten and do 1 set with the harness.

I find shrugs have thickened my neck too.

Certainly not practical to have a wide neck, but looks cool!
