Default Shoulder Injury

Hi Guys,

I've ripped something in my shoulder, and am wondering the best way to get it back to strength. Now I think it's called the rotator cuff ? Top of the arm, underneath the delt. If I'm trying to do inclines, flyes and military press, it's bloody sore.

Have reduced the weight, but it's now been 3 months, and still getting probs.

Been to doc and he says there's no loss of movement so it's fine. Was hoping for a cortisone jab, but no luck.

I'm just trying to find out if there is a round about way to beef up the muscles either side of it to support it or another way to train it back to health. Even though I've been doing this for 10 years, I'm stumped on this one.

There isn't a gum where I live, so I do all my training at home. Otherwise I suppose it would be easier to get advice and a spotter when training.

Any thoughts bros ??

Thornton.

Hi Thornton,

I work as a massage therapist based at Shredded's Olympic Gym in Manchester and if I had a tenner for each of the lads that come in with rotator cuff injuries I'd be laughing. It seems to be a very common injury for you bodybuilding chaps, kinda the tennis elbow of weights. The rotator cuff is a group of 4 muscles that help to stabalize the shoulder and give it the wide range of movement that it has. Shredded tells me that they are a very hard muscle group to isolate when training. The L flies as Crazy Cal mentioned are very good for them. The 4 muscles, the subscapularis, infraspinatus, teres major and minor originate on various places on the scapula and have their insersion points at the top of the arm under the delts. If you can try to get to a good massage therapist who will manipulate and stimulate the muscles group around the scapula to increase the blood supply, get rid of any toxins and sh*te and help to break up any scar tissue that may have formed, and bring in a fresh blood supply full of nutrients to aid recovery. Its done mainly from the back because even if the injury is to the front of your shoulder its a bit of a bugger to get to because it under the delt. By stimulating the rest of the muscle the insersion points under the delt will also be stimulated. Dependant on the severity of the injury it could take upwards of half a dozen sessions so don't expect miracles from one massage but you should gradually be able to feel a difference. I hope all this waffling has helped. And if you are in or near manchester come and see me!

FFS I can't half waffle ;-)
