Just because it's a full body routine it doesn't mean it is pussy footing around.
The guy that originaly trained me (85% of everything I still do to this day is based around what he tought me) was 15 years older than me, owned the gym I trained at (he was a genuine friend of mine who took the time to personaly train me free of charge) and when I began I weighed 9 stone with a beer belly and he weighed 18 and a half stone. I did full body work outs for 6 months and saw growth. This also gave me time to educate myself on my diet and learn to read what my body was saying to me.
It was only when he thought I was ready did he gradualy push me more and more. Too much too soon and you risk injury.

i asked a respected bud why he thought full body workouts were a good idea as i`d forgotten the reasoning myself.

Full body workouts for beginners?
I would suggest this is a good thing.
To get the mind and muscle thing down.
To get the body used to the stress of resistance.
Get connective tissue used to the motions.
Too much intensity would be overtraining to the new dude.
