What's the most effective can differ from one person to another. I cycle a variety of exercises However, at the moment,I follow my chest routine with..
3 sets of dips
3 sets of cable pushdowns.
If this doesn't work, after giving it a go for a month or so, change one of the exercises. Personally, I think triceps are one of the most overtrained bodyparts so don't be tempted to wildely increase the amount of exercises if you're not seeing any results.

I agree with chalk that they are a hugely overtrained bodypart. Personally i hit them compound with close grip bench presses, and then isolation with rope pulldowns and skullcrushers, 6 sets per week only.

My tri's were/are one of my best bodyparts, any pressing movements I do they jump in straight away.

I used to do them after shoulders with skull crushers (4 sets) and pushdowns (4 sets) last set on both was a drop set and they have always grown incredibly.

Now my competition days are over and I don't need them to be so ridiculous I do 4 or 5 sets of pushdowns with the last being a drop after my chest session, if feeling particularly strong I'll preceed the press downs with 2 or 3 sets of parallel bar dips, no longer weighted tho since I became a blouse!

With Tri's more is definately not always better, a lot of it is genetics but they get hit hard from chest and shoulder pressing work so bear that in mind when constructing your workout program.

most people i find the triceps lag behind the biceps. don't see many outstanding triceps on stage, even fewer people have a good balance between bi and tri. having triceps that hang down in a nice rounded shape when hitting a double bicep shot is a rare sight too.

i like close grip bench presses and skull crushers as my two favorites. i just go with these two and usually a third exersise like pushdowns. 3 sets each, 10-6 reps once a week.
