A lot of personal trainers particular in 'leisure gyms' pimp the idea of using high reps only when on a cut. Is there any real scientific backing for this? Assuming that your aims in the free weights room are for muscle stimulation alone and your cardio is kept outside the weights room, is there really any benefit in doing this? http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/now15.htm Here you see Jayson Kroner saying: Do At Least One Set Of Centuries Per Major Muscle Group: Unless you're content looking like some bloated beach mutant, your pre-summer conditioning should be all about the high reps. Clearly, one of the best ways to chisel up is to throw in at least one set of hundred-rep movements per major muscle group. Aside from working many of the fast twitch fibers that rarely get used during your regular regimen, centuries serve as an excellent way to facilitate your body's natural thermogenic, metabolic and cardiovascular properties. Go as low-weight as you have to in order to complete the ENTIRE set, and don't worry about who's watching you go ballistic on a set of 10 or 15 pound bells. Don't swing or jerk, and remember to keep your form controlled and fluid. ---- Would be interested on competitor's views on this. Very rarely in the spirit of change it might be worthwhile, but otherwise, muscle fiber recruitment is directly proportional to weight lifted in relation to your 1RM. IMO "one of the best ways to chisel up" is something that diet and cardio handles. As you would say, leave muscular development to liftin' heavy ass weights. |

| Under Construction | huh thats bull 8) i used the high rep thing once and went up to 50 reps it didnt do nothing. I admit i lost quite a lot of flab but i also lost muscle, but then again my diet was crap which is why i had high bodyfat in the first place. When you lift for high reps like that you feel like you muscle will pop out but thats cos theres a lot of blood flowing in there. Its a good warmup before an intense workout and thats all it is. My friend always used to pump away his 5 kg dumbells for ages and he dint out on muscle at all. EVentually i converted him to the religion of heavy lifting ______________________ Never give up.you should enjoy life to the full |
