Default 2 alternate or not ?

I have started a split where I train chest & shoulders together. Is it best to train 1 chest exercise then 1 shoulder exercise and alternate. Or is it better to do all the exercises for 1 body part before moving on to the next..... hope that makes sense & hope to hear from you soon

cheers tkd

i understand what you are sayin...you can go back and forth, but i have always found it easier for me to concentrate and focus on one body part at a time then move on to another one...

I prefer not to superset larger bodyparts like that. One at a time is better

Thanx 4 the replies

I am training for size!!

For years I have competed at Martial arts so my physique is more of a fighters than a body builders.

I know I could learn a lot from you guys & gals. I have got to an age where competing is no longer my goal & I have been offered some security work and would like to beef up for the part !!! However I teach Tae kwon Do so can not afford to just lift weights eat and sleep I have to set an example with my fitness (or t least try!!!). So its a case of beefing up while still keep in shape, I can't afford to bulk up to cut later on!

Hope I haven't gone on to much, and I hope that this gives you some back ground so you can help me out .

My Current split is.

Mon Shoulders Back Biceps

Tue Legs abs

Wed Chest Back triceps

Thur legs abs

Fri Chest Shoulders Forearms

My workouts consist of 45 mins weights and 15 minutes on the punch bag.

My cardio comes from teaching and training at M/arts.

Any thought comments would be gr8.

Cheers tkd

you could try training three days say mon wed fri

monday.
chest
shoulders
triceps

wednesday.
back
traps
rear delts
biceps.

friday.
legs.

This leaves you your other days to still do martial arts, .three days is plenty to build the mass

the only thing i would suggest is that you split things up so you are not working bigger muscle groups on the same day (ex. chest and back) and in general, it is not necessary to work a body part more than once/week as this can lead very quickly to overtraining since the CNS gets overtaxed and the muscle itself cannot rest and recover...
...maybe try this...

M:Chest
T:Bis
W:Tris
Th:Back
Fri:Shoulders/Legs

good luck...

im currently training for size with a 4 day split.

Mon: Back (with Deadlifts)
Tuesday: Chest & Triceps (With Benchpress)
Wed: Rest
Thursday: Legs (With Squats)
Friday: Shoulders & Biceps.
Sat & Sun: Rest

If your building size and strength make sure you get the 3 size building exercises in Benchpress, Deadlifts & Squats.

I wouldn't alternate either, your muscles will just go cold.
