Default back to basics or intermidete

Hi 1st post except my intro & would like some advice please. I have trained with weights ( 20 years) to help in my tae kwon do, but now wish to put on some serious size! I can train for an hour monday - fri, although I understand that my not be wise. I notice that there is a sticky on beginners forum, for a beginers routine - should I start with that ? I have previously trained with split routines. I was just thinking if I want to start over building size, should I go back to basics, or look at a more intermidete - advance workout ?

Cheers

TKD

PS if you need more info re my current strength & size (or lack of!) please let me know.

...just to be clear...you can train for one hour each day monday through friday or on mondays and fridays?...

...if you have 20 years experience with weights, you dont need to start from scratch just because your goals have changed...there are some good threads in this section recently in regards to this...if you can only work out 5 days a week consectutive, you are probablly better off with 5 on, 2 off, focusing on one body part each day, but you will ultimately have to go with trial and error to find what works best for you...

your diet is going to be the key in determining how much you can gain and how much...

Jay 123 - thanx for the replies mate. My current training is pretty hit & miss and I have been getting to the gym only 2 or 3 times a week. in those sessions I have just stuck to basics.

Now, because of a change in work circumstances, I can get to the gym 5 times per week for 1 hour sessions. It sounds ideal to train on a 5 day split but I'm not sure what body parts to train on consec' days to allow for full recovery. Any pointers  would but much appreciated.

It would be good to get a routine "in stone" for the new year, I know my lack of gains in the past has in a great part been due to a lack of continuity

Just to give u a rough idea of where I am at the mo - I'm 6 foot and 198lb chest 44 upper arms 16" oh! and I'm 36 years young.

My aim - well , I would like to get to a muscular 16 stone by the age of 40

thanx again look forward to recieving your advice

well...i posted what im doing and what has worked well for me for some time now...i prefer to do one body part per day and really focus on blasting it hard rather than trying to get two body parts in one hour...if you dont like what im doin, your best bet is to put things in order that makes the most sense for you and that gets you working every body part hard each week with plenty of rest...good luck and post what you come up with for feedback!
