Default Am I overtraining?

For the 2nd time in about 6 weeks, I am feeling like i have a cold - sore throat, blocked up nose, generally lethargic etc.

I've been training particularly hard, with 1 HIIT (morning) and 1 weights session (evening) per day for 5 days a week.

It seems to me like a classic symptom of overtraining, but i'd value others opinions on this.

Thanks,

Raz

in my opinion its not overtraining raz, its just that you are asking lots of your body and your more vulnerable to infections such as the common cold. you are subjecting your body to extreme changes in heat, heart rate, blood pressure, and also doing a lot of mental (computer) work in the day, so imo its just that you are worn down from training both mentally and physically.

i think you should continue through the pain/illness, but wrap up warmly if its chilly for your runs outside, or confine your cardio to gym only.

Nick

sometimes i think you need to listen to your body and rest, last year i trained no matter how i felt but i started 2 get really tired and run down most worrying started to loose my sex drive! im spending less time in the gym now and making much better gains, stiil training 5 or 6 times a week but shorter more intense sessions. my probem is training is addictive and i find it hard sometimes to rest even though i know thats what my body needs to grow.

thats blatently overtraining! five days a week working out twice a day. your body needs a break. rest is a vital factor in weight training - im sure you know this. i used to have a similar routine about a year ago. i just stopped growing because i wasnt gettine enough rest. i rekon working out 3-4 times a week is best. more if your using gear.

couldnt agree more with sitries-its holding youself back thats the hard thing-its easy to be the last person to realise that you`re overtraining-i used to do it regularly-dont batter your body grow it (i also think extended range of motion and failure is unecessary for natural trainers.

Yea i think your deff. overtraining. twice a day, 5 times a week is too much to handle. Not just mentally, phisically too. I find it hard to rest too.. i feel like im not doin as much as i should, but the rest is just as important as the work.

Most people say they grow outside of the gym, not in the gym.

True, but this is not a bulking phase, I am cutting at the moment - my 2x daily is purely to maximise metabolic effects.

Although on that note, I think i'll switch down to once a day for now.

you`ve got to keep your body "anabolic" to maximise metabolic effects-if you really want to go on a cutting cycle(i think you should have had a couple of weeks of from bulking & then continued bulking-unless you have reached your ideal size)-what about circuit training or just cardio-i find as long as i keep my protein high,i dont lose much muscle-just fat.i am admittedly a skinny ****er to start with and i`m trying to bulk up -i train 2x a week with weights at the most and 3ish cardio sessions of walking like the terminator(i`m told) check out my before & after pics at http://www.geocities.com/easternhass...agestars4.html

i no of this only to well, not being a consistant trainer for the last 6 years or more.
What usually happens is i have a good training program that lasts for about 8 months i break for 6 months, then come back to the gym thinking i can train for the long periods that i did 8 months ago.
The next couple of days i catch a cold and ache for about a week, in my opinion its defiently over training.
Id recomend rest up, overcome your cold then eat and sleep well when you continue to train.
The key element for you seems lack of recovery time, id suggest taking more rest time to let your body fully recuperate.

Didnt read your 2nd post, but am i right in thinking your training more and eating less?
Defiently over training if thats the case.
