I do light stretching for a couple of minutes to loosen up the joints, particularly shoulders which are prone to injuries. Then I start with a light weight and pyramid up to my max weight within 3-4 sets.

I do 5-10 minutes of cardio (treadmill, stairmaster, rowing machine) or sometimes in the summer I will bike to the gym (it takes about 20 minutes). Once I am warm I do a few light sets that focus on the joints/muscles which will used that day. For instance, on leg day I will do 2 sets of 20 leg extensions in order to warm-up my knees and 2 sets of 15 back extensions to pump blood and warmth to my lower back.
I usually start with squats and I will do 1 or 2 light sets before my working sets. I stretch between these warm-up sets only if I feel tight or stiff somewhere. Otherwise, I just make sure I do a full range of motion during warm-ups so that I am ready. I do the majority of my stretching post-workout.

Cheers,
GTF

yeah i always do 5 or 10 mins of cardio before any streching followed by 1 20 rep light set of the exersise im gonna be doing.
i always spend about half an hour streching after a cardio work out which is like another work out in itself but its all well worth it cuz a long muscle is a strong muscle.
ps never strech cold thats just asking for trouble
