Raw carrots are a good source of vits. Foods to definately stay clear of are sugars and saturated fats (especially when they are in the same food) these will severly crimp your hard work. Also potatoes have a tendency to not be a great food to have when trimming down. Those mini steppers are fine, will definately feel the burn in your butt and more so in the muscles just above your knees. Not sure if I could put up with the pain for 45-60 mins though. A rowing machine will burn more calories per minute than a stepper, so if you are considering training at home go for a rower. Also, if you can bear it train with weights too, not heavy weights, nice and light and about 20-25 reps. This will burn more calories and tone you up in all the right places .Its just the first few weeks/months or even days than are the hardest How do you want to look, you must have a mental picture of how you want yourself to look. Nothing is more important than the diet especially when preparing for a contest. It doesn't matter how hard or smart we train if the diet is made up of mostly bad foods we would get nowhere and look like crap. I think you may a bit stuck with the diet as you dont seem to like the foods that are a big part of a good diet. When I started getting serious about training I was like you, hated veg(all veg!) though rice cakes and all foods like that tasted like flavoured cardboard. I used to be a total beer and curry monster. I came to the conclusion that I would rather get results from my training and bare the food, that look like crap and get worse as I got older. You get used to the food after a while as you tastes will change ( I can't even stomach a curry now!) You may have to add a few food that you dont like to replace them with the bad ones, not everything as you will become bored with the diet after a while and lose interest. Just make subtle changes for the minute. If you are going to reduce you calories by 500, I would suggest you reduce carbs by 300 cals, fats by 300 cals and add 100 cals of protein. This is reducing about 75grams carbs and fats and adding abot 30grams of protein. I know it is a bummer when you are just starting out  but Iaven Nell has a diet and training routine she sticks to. Believe me she wouldn't look so great by not looking after herself. I bet she ocasionally treats herself though! I always say to people that diets are bad, look at it as a lifestyle change that is permanent. Diets often go stale as you body weight will drop due to the reduced calories and then that diet intake will be enough to maintain your bodyweight. Avoid diets and make a permanent change and you will be that closer to a body to die for. Get that mental picture of how you want to see yourself and work at it to make this happen. Actually, have a look here at the pics of "amiking" on the site in out of contest shape. Is this what you are looking for? http://www.musclechat.org/viewtopic.php?t=1507 If so send her a PM to ask her what her out of season diet and training consists of.
