That is an excellent beginners program, Garry. I'm glad to see that someone else appreciates the need for a training journal/diary. Too many guys train "instinctively"...I like what Dorian Yates once said, "If I just went by 'instinct', I wouldn't be at the gym at all. I'd be down at the pub drinking and chasing women."
Brynweb, best of luck in your quest to gain muscle and might. Heed Garry's advice on the need for adequate rest and the importance of diet. Train naturally (I would say for 5 years minimum), gear is only beneficial to those who know how to train and eat properly...it will take you a while to learn how your body reacts to various exercises, rep schemes, nutrtional strategies, workout frequency etc...
That is what I love about this sport so much! There are literally endless routines, diets and supplements to try.
Speaking of supplements, I think you are on the right track, kyoshi. I think that the most important supplements are : multi-vitamin/mineral
protein powder
glutamine
essential fatty acids
creatine
Also, GettinSwole made an excellent suggestion with ZMA. Not only does it enhance the body's natural production of testosterone but it can help you sleep better. Sleep is very, very important for recovery and it is when our body's release the largest amount of growth hormone which will aid you in your body re-composition efforts.

Train hard and with purpose
Eat plenty of nutritious meals rich in protein
Rest
Repeat

Best of luck.
GTF

Sorry I haven't replied sooner to any of these, I split with my girl a couple of months ago and packed in training to wallow in my depression but I started back last week so I'll be around more often again.

Thanks for the positive feedback on the routine especially kyoshi, glad to hear its going so well. To answer your question yes creatine is a good idea its about the only supplement that I have found that works, apart from that aim for 1.5-2 gms protein and 2gms of carbs per lb of bodyweight per day and take a good multivit/mineral.
