From my knowledge from my nutrition degree, furthermore one of my friends did a presentation on this vitamin in question, I know that vitamin b6 (alongside other b vitamins) is vital for amino acid metabolism. Quite conveniantly, high-protein foods are naturally good sources of vitamin b6 which is necessary and logical considering the importance of amino acid metabolism. My question therefore is this: Since whey protein has been isolated from milk (a naturally good source of vitamin b6 due to its protein content), the result is the consumption of protein without the necessary vitamins for proper utilisation of the protein (amino acids). Therefore it would seem prudent to add b6 and other b vitamins for that matter to address this issue. However many products seem to lack added b vitamins, why is this so? It seems an important issue to me considering the RNI for b6 is based upon grams of protein intake per day. I hope you understand what I am saying here if you require clarification I will elaborate. |
